PORTRAITS

I have always felt that portraits are an important part of the world we live in, especially for artists. Many artists are not big fans of portraits since they cannot get the proportions right, but I look at it as a way to refine my skills creating art. I enjoy drawing, painting, and sculpting portraits because identifying placements and calculating where an eye or nose or mouth (certain human characteristics) will go can be useful in other areas of artistic endeavors. There is a science to mapping out facial features, just like there are blueprints for architectural and landscape designs. Since portraits are very personal, I focus on one particular aspect at a time until I capture that individual’s essence.
